Eswatini to Host Regional OVEP and Clean Sport Education Workshop
The Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA), in collaboration with the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Zone VI and the Africa Zone VI Regional Anti-Doping Organization (RADO), will host a regional Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP) and Clean Sport Education Workshop in October 2025.
This landmark initiative will bring together representatives from across Southern Africa for a three-day Training of Trainers programme designed to promote values-based education, clean sport, and the integrity of athletics throughout the region. The workshop forms part of the ongoing partnership between ANOCA Zone VI and Africa Zone VI RADO, following a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2022 to strengthen collaboration on education, capacity building, and anti-doping initiatives.
The OVEP and Clean Sport Education programmes share a common goal: to instill the values of excellence, respect, and friendship while equipping athletes, coaches, and sports administrators with the knowledge and tools needed to safeguard the integrity of sport. Through interactive sessions and expert-led facilitation, participants will explore values-based leadership, behaviour change strategies, and the development of national education projects that promote fair play and athlete welfare.
This regional workshop will provide a platform for sports leaders and Athlete Commission representatives to exchange experiences and create a learning network that supports continuous collaboration within Zone VI. The initiative also aligns with the World Anti-Doping Code and the principles of the Olympic Charter, ensuring that education and awareness remain at the heart of sport development.
The Eswatini workshop represents a significant step toward building a strong, unified foundation for clean and ethical sport in Africa. It emphasizes that true sporting excellence begins with integrity and that fair competition is the cornerstone of sustainable athlete development.
By investing in values-based education, the region is investing in the future of African sport. The upcoming workshop serves as a model of cooperation within ANOCA Zone VI, demonstrating how collective action and shared commitment can foster a culture of discipline, respect, and clean competition.
As the collaboration between ANOCA Zone VI, RADO, and EOCGA continues to grow, it is expected that similar programmes will be rolled out across other member countries, extending the reach and impact of OVEP and Clean Sport Education. This unified approach reflects the shared vision of nurturing not only successful athletes but also responsible ambassadors who embody the Olympic ideals in every aspect of their lives.
The hosting of the OVEP and Clean Sport Education Workshop in Eswatini is a milestone for the region, reinforcing the belief that through education, partnership, and shared values, sport can continue to inspire positive change across Africa.
