Congratulations to Kirsty Coventry: 10th President of the International Olympic Committee
ANOCA Zone VI joins the rest of the continent in extending its heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Kirsty Coventry on her historic election as the 10th President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
This is a monumental achievement not only for Zimbabwe, her home country, but also for the entire African sporting fraternity. We are particularly ecstatic that such an outstanding milestone has been achieved by a distinguished leader from our very own Zone VI.
In this regard, we also take a moment to salute Zimbabwe for producing a leader of such exceptional caliber. This historic moment serves as a powerful inspiration to all young female leaders across the continent and beyond. It signifies that no dream is too big, and that with dedication, focus, and the right mindset, anything is possible—regardless of one’s background or origins.
We have watched with immense pride and joy as Kirsty Coventry carved her legacy during her illustrious sporting career, where she represented Zimbabwe with distinction, amassing an incredible seven Olympic medals, including two gold. Her dedication, discipline, and commitment were the cornerstones of her success, qualities that she has seamlessly carried into her professional career in sports administration and governance.
Her election is a clear indication of Africa’s growing influence in shaping the global Olympic Movement. As we look forward to the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the first Olympic event on African soil, we are proud that an African IOC President will lead the Olympic Movement into this historic moment.
