Maxwell Jele, the newly appointed Secretary General of ANOCA Zone VI, recently completed a two-day mission in Gaborone, Botswana, where he attended bilateral meetings with Mr. Stanley Mutoya, the CEO of AUSC Region 5.
These important discussions took place at the AUSC Region 5 offices and were aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two organizations. During the meetings, Mr. Jele and Mr. Mutoya focused on expanding the collaboration outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that ANOCA Zone VI and AUSC Region 5 signed in December 2023.
This MOU highlighted key areas of partnership, particularly in athlete development, which is crucial for enhancing the sporting capabilities of the region. The discussions centered on developing a comprehensive implementation plan that would address these areas of interest, ensuring that both organizations could maximize their resources for greater impact.
A significant topic of conversation was the upcoming Region 5 Youth Games, which are held every two years. Mr. Jele and Mr. Mutoya explored strategies to optimize joint programs and initiatives that would benefit young athletes across the region, fostering a culture of excellence and competition.
In addition to the bilateral meetings, Mr. Jele took the opportunity to pay a courtesy call to the Botswana National Olympic Committee. This visit allowed him to engage with local officials and discuss further collaboration opportunities, reinforcing the importance of unity and shared goals in promoting sports development in Southern Africa.

Overall, the mission was a productive step forward in solidifying the partnership between ANOCA Zone VI and AUSC Region 5, setting the stage for future initiatives that will enhance the Olympic movement and support athletes in their pursuit of excellence.
